UNDERSTANDING WORLD TIME

One planet, many local times

NOW is a live visual reference for comparing local time around the world. The map combines geographic city positions, UTC-offset columns and a continuously moving solar layer.

01

How time zones work

Earth rotates once in roughly 24 hours, so the globe is organized into local time zones measured relative to Coordinated Universal Time. Political borders and daylight-saving rules mean real offsets do not always follow perfectly straight lines.

02

Reading the light map

The warm side of the map faces the Sun, while the dark side is experiencing night. The blended pink and violet boundary represents twilight around sunrise and sunset. It advances automatically as time passes.

03

Accurate city clocks

Each city is positioned from its real latitude and longitude. Its clock uses the named regional time zone, including applicable daylight-saving changes, rather than relying on a fixed UTC offset.
